Our Community Garden was established in the fall of 2008 with a cover crop planted on a newly-cleared, outdated blueberry field.   And it worked:)

The garden was largely given life by a local couple from Carolina Beach that wanted to create for themselves a large garden for commercial reasons; as well as assist the community with their knowledge of sustainability and organic practices.

We are proud to have Federal Point Farm farmers Christin and Dave available to us for inspiration, information, organic growing methods, sustainability practices, organic insecticides and fertilizers, knowledge and commitment.

No matter how hot it gets outside, Christin and Dave are always in the garden.   Many local restaurants are buying directly from Federal Point Farm.   The tomatoe in your salad could easily have come from Christin and Dave, grown organically and locally.

In 2009 we were happy to welcome Kyle  and a couple of his friends to the garden.  Kyle is a local chef in downtown Wilmington, and you will find him in the garden almost every morning before he heads into town.  Again, local, fresh and organic.

We also have onhand Amy.  Amy is a graduate of the New Hanover County Master Gardener Program, and brings lots of information and commitment to the garden.  Amy is actually located directly inside the community garden space, and she is there every morning with a smile on her face and a big 'ol hat.  She is happy to share her newest insight into pest control and crop rotation.

We have several other farmers in the garden space, and Wade is a meticulous and super smart farmer guy.  He is amazing!  Wade knows what he's doing, and he is happy to share his knowledge with anyone.  Wade produces one of the finest gardens I have ever seen.

We are losing some of our smaller community gardeners this year due to babies coming, families moving, job scarcity and new opportunities.  We will miss everyone that has found a new path; and we welcome all the new growers that we will come to know this new year.
